I was made for this

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”- Ephesians 2:10

I love the thought that an intelligent designer has created us.
No accidents.
No mistakes.

Each one of us is an intricate, deliberate act of workmanship created in the image of a designer who is intelligent beyond our comprehension. This means each of us is of great worth and value to the one who created us. That’s right, even you with all of your insecurities, shortcomings and hang-ups! God loves you unconditionally.

Being made in the image of God is a profound thought and in essence means that we are the pinnacles of God’s creation, bearing his likeness and also the responsibility of having dominion over His creation. The obvious thought is that if we are made in the image of God, why is the world so full of hurt, brokenness, pain and evil? What we see in this broken world is the devastating effects of sin. The image of God in us has been distorted by the affects of sin in our lives, to the point of being barely recognisable at times. Sin is rebelling from God and turning towards independence from God, rather than dependence on Him. Sin separates us from a God who is holy and perfect in every way and as Romans tells us we all fall short of the glory of God. This is all bad news, however the Gospel of Jesus Christ is good news for all who would receive what Jesus did on the cross.

John 3:16 is perhaps the most well known verse in the Bible telling us that God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son, that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. Jesus is the perfect Son of God who paid the price that had to be paid to appease the anger of a righteous God. Justice had to be served and the penalty of sin had to be paid, deservingly by us. However, by the grace of God Jesus, the sinless Son of God, died in our place and if we respond to the work of the Spirit in our lives, the sin of our lives is placed on Jesus and he, setting us free from the death penalty we deserve, pays the price.

That is amazing, unconditional, life-changing grace.

In our own strength and capabilities the reality of separation cannot be undone. We are heading for an eternity separated from a God who is all things good. This is where we all find ourselves at some point in our lives and as such we need God’s intervention, through the work of Jesus at cross and the work of the Spirit in our lives.

In Christ we are a new creation; the old has gone and the new has come.
We are redeemed.
We are forgiven.
We are created in Christ for good works that He has prepared in advance for us to do.

Recently we have seen the work of God in our midst. The supernatural provision and timing of God has become so apparent and unmistakeable as we prepare to launch Follow Baptist Church in July 2015. As we follow Jesus, in our community, for His glory I believe we will be walking in the good works for which he has created us in Christ. We are part of His big plan for creation to redeem all things to himself, and there is no greater plan, purpose, dream or vision in life. I believe God is going to use each of us in the region of Officer to lift Jesus High and make his name known.
It will be an adventure full of ups and downs, highs and lows, tragedies and triumphs. It will take sacrifice, patience, perseverance, humility, boldness, creativity, faith and most of all love for God and for the people of our region.
In Christ we are created for this.
