Although I grew up in church, all it was to me was a ‘forced visit’ every Sunday. I couldn’t wait to be old enough to make my own decisions, however, that time came and lasted only a few short years. I had been through enough heartache by the age of 14 to know that I wanted and needed more out of life than what was on offer to me. It was at this stage, that I made the decision to accept Jesus as my Lord and Saviour and rather than it just involving a weekly visit to church, I was able to have a personal relationship with Him. What a difference to know that I can come to God at anytime not just once a week and that He promises to give me comfort, rest and help through times of trouble.
A personal relationship with Jesus has certainly given me so much more than I thought. In Luke 6:38 it states “Give, and it shall be given unto you: a good measure-pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you”. God, in His goodness, has certainly blessed my life beyond measure and in more ways than I can recount in this short space.
I married Wayne my wonderful husband of 27 years at the age of 16. Wayne too, became a Christian at a young age. He also didn’t want to be a part of a religious world but asked God to reveal Himself to him in a personal way. And that’s who God is; a revealing, personal God when we open up and surrender our hearts to Him.
Together, we have been blessed with two wonderful God-fearing children and 1 gorgeous three year-old grandson! In our life we certainly have had our share of up and downs. God never said he would take those away but in His word, He makes it clear that we WILL go through trials but that we can be comforted knowing He will never leave us or forsake us. He is our loving Creator!
One thing God has revealed to me being here at Follow Baptist Church is that although this may be our ‘church name’, in heaven, there are no denominations. We have only felt a sense of welcome since being a part of this church family. We have both become involved in church ministry with Wayne volunteering for the Sound/AV Team and myself being a part of the Music Team and Little Followers crèche. We also love the vision that Follow has for community outreach; reaching out to those in need – not just the spiritually poor but the physically poor. We are looking forward to continue serving and loving in practical ways whilst sharing the love of God, which is what He calls us to do, through His word.
